Site Goes Social

Added social network logins. You should now be able to leave comments without having to register an account on the blog. I had it set up for that before, but some rules changed in the past. Anyway, all API’s should be configured, but I don’t know if the Yahoo API is actually working. Haven’t tested them all yet.

Migration and Optimization Complete

I’ve tweaked with my board some more, and I think I’ve now got it about as optimized as I can get it. Pages seem to be loading a lot faster, so I’m happy with it thus far. I’ve also managed to go through and correct all the errors in the posts that were migrated in due to different formatting rules and short-codes used on the old blogs. They should now view as I had originally intended.

Not as Speedy as I Hoped

Well, the blog is a little faster. It’s not as speedy as I had hoped it would be, but then maybe I just need to give it more time. I will be looking for a new host to replace this one as I just can’t bear to put up with the slowness of this one any longer. Hopefully transferring my domain won’t be too much of a pain in the ass. I’m still paid up here for another two months, so I’ll be here at least till then.

If anyone knows some good hosting services, please feel free to let me know. And don’t be afraid to share your hosting nightmares either. I’d like to know who to avoid. In the end it will all come down to how much it costs and how much I have to spend. I’ll be looking at yearly contracts because they save me the most money.

To all the readers who’ve pressured me into restarting this blog on Facebook, Twitter, and various boards and social networks that I visit: Thank you, I’ll do my best to live up to your expectations. To anyone who thinks that I’m just wasting my time: Thank you for your opinion, but I think I can handle things fine without it.

Yay Random Errors

I had to manually delve into the source of my WP install today to resolve some random non-critical errors today. I was able to fix them due to my knowledge of PHP, so that’s good. The errors and what was causing them are now all gone. Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the next update of WordPress. If it is not, I’ll just go back in and repair it again.

W3 Total Cache & CloudFlare

I realize that my site is really slow right now, but I’ve taken it upon myself to research techniques to make it faster. I’ve gone ahead and setup W3 Total Cache and CloudFlare. W3 Total Cache will make copies of things that don’t change much into static content, and CloudFlare will reduce my server load by distributing my content from a server closer to you. This will save me bandwidth, and improve your experience with my blog. I just set it up, and I’m going to try it for a month to see how it goes. It’ll be about 24 hours till the changes take effect, so check back tomorrow to see improvement!
